23日，香港天文臺發布消息，天文臺高空觀測站成為全球首個獲世界氣象組織認證的百年高空觀測站。
2017年開始，世界氣象組織通過認證機製表揚世界各地維持優質氣象觀測並妥善保存歷史資料和長期觀測數據的氣象站。長期氣象觀測對記錄和分析地球氣候變化十分重要，有助推動氣候研究發展。至今，約有三百個具百年或以上歷史的觀測站獲得世界氣象組織認證。
位於京士柏的天文臺高空觀測站今年6月獲世界氣象組織認證，為全球首個獲認證的百年高空觀測站。設於天文臺總部的地面觀測站也在2017年獲世界氣象組織認證為首批百年觀測站之一。

On the 23rd, the Hong Kong Observatory announced that the Observatory's high-altitude observatory became the world's first century-old high-altitude observatory certified by the World Meteorological Organization.
Beginning in 2017, the World Meteorological Organization has commended weather stations around the world that maintain high-quality weather observations and properly preserve historical data and long-term observation data through the certification mechanism. So far, about 300 observatories with a history of one hundred years or more have been certified by the World Meteorological Organization.
The Observatory's high-altitude observatory in King's Park was certified by the World Meteorological Organization in June this year and is the world's first certified centennial high-altitude observatory. The ground-based observatory at the Observatory's headquarters was also certified by the World Meteorological Organization as one of the first centennial observatories in 2017.
