The Large-scale Field Automated Weighing Lysimeter System is a critical tool for studying water balance and its related parameters within ecosystems. It is specifically developed to research the transport, transfer, and interaction of water across the atmosphere, plants, soil, soil organisms, and groundwater in the context of agriculture and forestry. The system utilizes soil weighing units, monitoring sensors, and data acquisition systems to analyze water movement, balance, and influencing factors within soil columns.

In July 2019, the Research Institute of Tropical Forestry, Chinese Academy of Forestry, installed two sets of field automated weighing lysimeter systems within the Xiyao Green Valley in Linwu County, Chenzhou City, Hunan Province. This installation features a dedicated underground facility for the lysimeter soil columns, equipped with integrated sensors for measuring soil moisture, temperature, water potential, and weight, as well as surface runoff and seepage water.

Maintenance Scope

  • Cable Inspection and Replacement

  • Seepage System Maintenance

All components of the seepage water system are inspected to ensure optimal functionality, preventing any subsystem failures from compromising the overall operation of the lysimeter.


  • Weighing System Calibration and Replacement

We perform comprehensive testing on the weighing units to ensure data precision. Sensors that are damaged or show a decline in accuracy are replaced to maintain high-fidelity measurements.


  • Power Supply System Audit

The stability and safety of the power supply system are rigorously checked to ensure the lysimeter remains operational and protected under all environmental conditions.


  • Drainage System Maintenance

We clear any blockages within the drainage infrastructure to ensure unobstructed flow, avoiding equipment damage or data anomalies caused by water accumulation.
