The opaque or non-transparent gas measuring chamber is one of the closed portable systems in which the chamber is only closed for a short time depending on the application and then installed at a new measuring location. It is used to determine the exchange capacities of gases between the soil (plants) and the atmosphere. The gases emitted during soil respiration or dark respiration are collected in the chamber within the soil frame and extracted through the connection opening at the top of the chamber.
The chambers are available as open path or closed path applications:
The open path application is a non-recirculating system where a small amount of gas sample is taken through a connection port (out) with a gas analyzer.
The closed path application is a recirculating system (loop) in which gas samples are taken via the connection opening (out) with a gas analyzer.
With these two methods, all gases generated under the chamber can be measured in the gas analyzer (if designed for this). In the event that chambers are fitted quickly, the chambers can be equipped with a pressure equalization valve or pressure equalization hose. This reduces the overpressure when the chamber is fitted quickly.
